Chapter 1 - The beginning
(Translator's note : Ryou is about 12 years old in this story.)
Ryou is at Mount Fuji in Japan. The sun was setting. Ryou is watching the sunset.
Earlier Ryou and Kaosu had a conversation. Kaosu says that bad events are going to begin. Ryou must travel east with Byakuen.
Ryou asks 'why?'. Kaosu says that Ryou's destiny is waiting for him.
Ryou begins to run east with Byakuen. To Shinjuku.

Many years ago, Ryou was in elementary school. He did not have friends.

This year, a beautiful girl arrived. Shizuko Takatsuki.
The boys felt intimidated. The girls felt she could not be talked to. Shizuko was too pretty, too smart, too skilled in many things. Shizuko was alone.One day in the village (Ryou lives in a small village. The village is in the countryside.), Shizuko is surrounded by a group of bullies. Shizuko's family has a lot of money. Ryou interrupts the bullies. One bully punches Ryou and makes his nose bleed. Ryou grabs Shizuko's wrist and they run away from the bullies. They escape.

Chapter 2 - Why is there one photograph of Ryou's mother?
When Ryou was 6 years old, on the first day of school, a police officer was sent to his school. The police officer escorted Ryou to a city far away. To a hospital. His mother was dying. His father had send the police officer.Ryou's mother had always been sick. She suffered from lung problems. After marrying Ryou's father and moving here (this village was his father's home), her lung problems were less, but was not cured. Eventually her condition became very bad. She had to be in the hospital all of the time. Now? She was dying.
When Ryou arrived at the hospital, his mother told him a story.
Takeru, a young boy. Similar to Ryou. He had a kind heart. He was a good boy. One day, God gave Takeru a magical sword. After that, evil bandits arrived. They hurt people. They began to destroy the village. The people of the village begged Takerku to use the sword. Stop the bandits. Takeru did. The bandits fled. However, the villagers now did not trust Takeru. Takeru was seen as evil. Eventually, Takeru departed from the village.
Ryou's mother, Fumiko, said she was sorry. There was no one in Ryou's life to help him. He was very similar to Takeru.
Fumiko died.
Ryou said to Shizuko that his mother was dead.
Shizuko found it funny and weird. If Ryou's father had loved Fumiko, there would be many pictures of her. There would be many photograph albums of her pictures. There would be more than only 1 picture. 1 book.Ryou never thought about this. This was very strange.
Chapter 3 - Seeing a white tiger.
Ryou thought that the only person who could explain this would be his father, Shintaro.Shintaro was a photographer. Between his job, and the family property, the Sanada family always had money. Lots of money.(The story does not mention if the only family Ryou has is Ryou and Shintaro, or more family members. The only people ever mentioned are Fumiko, Shintaro, and Ryou.)Because of his job, Shintaro was not home very often. After Fumiko's death, he was rarely seen. Eventually, his 6 visits to his son became one or two phone calls. Shintaro had given away his job as a photographer in the city. Instead, he travelled to the wilderness, to other countries, to take pictuers of wild animals.
Shizuko told Ryou to ask his father. He would know. Ryou says he cannot ask his father. It is embarassing.Shizuko concludes her visit to his house and leaves.
Time passes by. Ryou has the house, the property, and days to himself. He wanders out into the forest. He feels better being outside in the wilderness.
Ryou visits the mountain behind his property. Eventually he began to climb the mountain. 6 months later, Ryou has learned a lot. He knows how to climb mountains and be safe. He spends many days alone in the forest.
One day when he was outside in the forest, he continued to see a white blur running. Large footprints in the ground. After that day, he began to see the white blur many more times.One day, suddenly, a large eagle attacks Ryou. The bird lifts Ryou high up into the air and flies over a valley. Ryou was not like other children. He was uneasy, but not afraid.
He tried several times to make the bird release him. It was only when the bird flew close to a tall tree that Ryou used a lighter (fire creating device) and touched the flame to the bird's foot. The bird flew lower, very close to the tree and Ryou escaped. The large eagle quickly flew away.
Ryou looked to see a white tiger beside the tree.
The tiger quickly departed.
Ryou was left alone. Shizuko had once said to him that she felt like a different person (different personality?) was inside of Ryou.
Seeing how Ryou handled the situation, with a clear mind, not afraid, he wondered if this is what Shizuko was talking about.
Chapter 4 - Trying to catch a tiger.
Ryou was very curious about that white tiger. He wanted to catch it. After gathering supplies, Ryou returned to the tree. For seven days, he stayed in the tree. He'd made a trap for the tiger. When the white tiger finally appeared, approaching the base of the tree, Ryou tried to use a rope to catch the tiger.
Every time he lowered the rope to catch the tiger, the tiger would move his head. Ryou was unable to capture the tiger. Eventually, the tiger looked up at Ryou. Ryou looked down at the tiger. Then the tiger departed.
When Ryou was walking through the forest, intent to return to his house, he suddenly saw a monk. However, the monk walked through Ryou. The monk continued walking.
It was weird but there was nothing to be done.
This entire event, with the large eagle, the tiger, and now that monk, were weird.
After Ryou returned home and rested, he called his father's agent. The agent always had jobs for his father. The agent always knew where his father was.
The agent told Ryou that his father was currently at an airport hotel nearby. He would be leaving tomorrow.
Ryou made plans to meet with his father.
Chapter 5 - Hello, Father. We need to talk.
Ryou travelled by train and arrived at the hotel. From the lobby, Ryou called Shintaro on the phone. Shintaro would meet Ryou in the hotel restaurant.
Shintaro arrived, ordered food for both of them, and began to eat once the food arrived.
If it wasn't for his outward appearance, you'd think this was an adolestent boy from his behavior while eating. Unlike Fumiko, she was refined. However, she must have loved this part of his personality.
Eventually Ryou asked Shintaro why there was only one picture of baby Ryou and his mother. Ryou asks if he didn't love Fumiko. If Shintaro ever missed Fumiko. Shintaro paid for the meal and invited Ryou up to his hotel room.In the much more private and quiet room, Shintaro spoke. After Fumiko died, his heart was broken. He hurt. Anything that reminded him of Fumiko made him feel pain. He removed everything that belonged to Fumiko. Including pictures. However, she had lived at his home, on his property. Memories of her were everywhere. Being there hurt too much.Shintaro then tells Ryou to not rely on pictures. Rely on his memory of Fumiko. It is more important, for Ryou, to be able to remember Fumiko, not look at a picture of her. It is better that way.
The remainder of the night, Shintaro and Ryou talked about Fumiko. Some things Ryou remembered. Many things he did not. Shintaro helped give Ryou new memories of his long-dead mother.
The next morning, Shintaro took his airplane and left. Ryou exited the hotel and was surprised to see Shizuko.
Shizuko was happy to see Ryou. This was unexpected! A happy surprise!
Chapter 6 - It was nice to meet you again.
Shizuko had returned to Japan. She had been living in London.
As Ryou and Shizoku sat in a small restaurant that served desserts and fruits, they talked.
Shizuko's parents had divorced. She did not want to choose only one parent, so she was living with each parent. One parent one year, one parent another year. One in Japan, the other in London.
Ryou realized why Shizuko had not been very happy when she came to his school. Her parents were upset. They were getting a divorce. Shizuko was caught in the middle. No one would be happy with that.
Their food was paid for and they left the restaurant. Ryou and Shizuko departed, Ryou to Yamanashi and Shizuko to Tokyo.
Chapter 7 - Ryou meets Kaosu.
On the train ride home, Ryou remembered something. The day Fumiko died. She said something to Shintaro. Shintaro walked over to the window. Ryou could not remember what was said. Ryou could not ask Shintaro about this. He was travelling. No way to call him.
Ryou decided to forget about it and climbed a hill. Being outside in the forest helped calm his mind.
Suddenly, Ryou realized he did not see the white tiger anywhere. It was gone.
He continued walking.
Ryou was suddenly attacked by the large eagle. The white tiger appeared, hitting the eagle. Ryou was free. He ran over to some trees. The large eagle flapped its wings and returned to the air. However, the bird returned and was now attacking a rabbit. Ryou grabbed a rock and threw it at the bird. The bird was distracted. The rabbit fled into the forest. Ryou said that he would not kill the bird or attack it again, but that it should leave.
Ryou realized the monk was here and he said 'I hate killing'.
The monk said he knew this. He then told Ryou that he did not take the correct action. Because Ryou saved the rabbit, the large eagle would be hungry. For wild animals, this was their life. Kill to eat, or die of starvation. For wild animals, the best action is to leave them alone.
Ryou said he could not do that. Normal for wild animals or not, Ryou could not allow seeing a rabbit being attacked and slaughtered. He would not stand by and do nothing. He understood the way of the wild animals, but he had a kind heard. He would not allow violence.
The monk said that Ryou has a kind heart.
Ryou is surprised that the monk knows his name. The monk says he knows everything about Ryou. He shakes his metal staff and the white tiger appears. The monk and the tiger are friends.The monk says that the tiger's name is Byakuen (white flame). Byakuen is the faithful subordinate of Ryou of the Rekka (rekka = violent flame).
The monk introduced himself as Kaosu. Today, Ryou has become 'Ryou of the Rekka. Kaosu then tosses a wooden sword at Ryou and says to attack him. Ryou gently touches the monk's cheek. Kaosu is not impresssed. He tells Ryou to try again. Ryou will not be able to injure him, so try. Try hard.
Ryou attacks again.
Kaosu easliy dodged Ryou's attack. This was the day Ryou's special training began. He was taught how to use a sword, martial arts, like Judo and Karate. One year had passed. Ryou had become fast and strong.
Kaosu tells Ryou that he needs something. Something his mother had. Shintaro would understand this and tell Ryou. Kaosu departed.
Ryou contacted Shintaro's agent and was told that Shintaro had returned to Japan yesterday. He was in Yokohama.
Ryou called Shizuko on the telephone and she wanted to meet him. Because he was going to see Shintaro in Yokohama, she would meet Ryou in Yokohama, too.Shintaro would meet Ryou at 6 in the evening. Shizuko wanted to meet Ryou early in the morning. Ryou agreed.
Chapter 8 - A pleasant day is interrupted by a fight.
Ryou and Shizuko met in Yamashita Park in Yokohama. Because this was a summer morning, a pleasant morning, many people were outside. Young couples in love. Parents and their children. Ryou felt akward being by himself, and not having the same family as other people had.
Shizuko was happy to see Ryou and she took the lead. They went to a restaurant and ate.

Neither one of them were afraid, but they were not rushing to interrupt the fight, either.The bullies grabbed pieces of wood, using them like swords, and began to attack the boy. The boy, however, fought back.
The bullies were not happy about this and became more serious. The bullies completely surrounded the boy and began to attack. The boy could not properly defend himself against this and was struck.Ryou became upset and could not watch any more.
Ryou used the training Kaosu had shown him. He knocked down several of the bullies with ease, and the bullies were upset, but afraid of Ryou.

Chapter 9 - Shintaro's revelation about Ryou's destiny.

Shintaro returned to Fumiko and shared what was found.
Before the dream, which was actually a vision, of the monk, Fumiko had a dream, several times, about a boy named Takeru. The same story she told Ryou. Kaosu told Ryou to jump and Ryou jumped. Instead of a normal jump, Ryou was propelled high into the air. High above the head of Kaosu. Kaosu was impressed. Kaosu touched his staff to Ryou's chest and Ryou was suddenly wearing armor.

Chapitre 6 - C'était un plaisir de vous revoir.
